Start Fitness - North East Harrier League
On a snowbound course at Newcastle Town Moor, Sunderland got back to winning ways, narrowly defeating Morpeth in the six to count team race. Led home by Gavin Massingham with an excellent fourth place from the Fast Pack, Sunderland had their first six counters in the top 34. The Women were led home by Bev Blakeman, who finished 6th.
Durham Schools Cross-Country
Whilst the Seniors were competing on a snowbound course at Newcastle Town Moor, many of the younger club members were representing their school and area after qualifying to take part in the Durham Schools Cross Country Championships held at an equally cold Meadowfield, Durham. Jason Waite, Michael Wilson and Sophie Burnett all won their respective races.
Northern Cross Country Championships - Blackburn
On a cold and foggy day in Blackburn the club, without their top Senior Men, were relying on the younger club members to produce good results. With finishers in 21st, 22nd and 23rd positions the team rose to the occasion. Thank you to all the parents who made the journey over to Blackburn to support the runners and who ensured those juniors running turned up in plenty of time to collect numbers, recce the course and for their help and support throughout the day.
Nassim Heraoua
One runner who is managing to race despite the recent poor weather is Nassim Heraoua. Nassim raced at the Jarrow Indoor Series on Thursday 14th January where he finished second in the Under 13 Boys 60 metres, equalling his PB of 8.8 seconds. Nassim then ran in the Under 11 (minors) race on Sunday 17th January where he went one better winning gold in the 60 metres, and again equalled his pb of 8.8 seconds.
