Penshaw Hill Race (3 miles approx.)

The Penshaw Hill Race is an undulating off road course.  The race starts at the bottom of the Penshaw Hill with a steady climb round the back of the monument to the top of the hill.  There is a prize awarded for the first man and the first women to reach the top of the hill.  The course then takes a steady downhill route to the front of the monument hill.  From this point the course runs around the base of the monument twice before the final climb to the finish at the top of the hill.

Sunderland 5K Road Race

The Sunderland 5K Road Race is a traffic free course which takes place at Silksworth Sports Complex, Sunderland. The course itself is fast and ideal for PB's, the current record holder is Martin Scaife with a time of 14.23 mins. The women's course record is held by Freya Murray with a time of 16.13 mins. This race is a two lap course, one small loop alongside the fishing lake then a large loop around the swan's lake before entering the finish straight.

SUNDERLAND 5K RACE DAY INFORMATION Running Number: Numbers will be issued on race day or by post if SAE is included with your entry. The number must be worn on the front of your vest and must not be mutilated or folded.

Please ensure that the medical information requested on the reverse of your number is correctly completed.

The START and ASSEMBLY area: The assembly area is at the wooden seat on the approach path to the complex from the direction of Silksworth. All participants should be at this point no later than 7.05pm. Please line up as per your estimated finishing time, the race will start at 7.15.

Changing Accommodation: Changing facilities and showers are available within the ski slope changing rooms. NO baggage should be left in the changing area. Please use the lockers. Tokens are available at the reception. The organisers will accept no liability for loss of, or damage to, competitors' property.

Car Parking: There are ample parking facilities at Silksworth Sports Complex.

Toilets: Toilets are available within the Ski slope complex and the Puma Tennis Centre.

Route & Refreshment Station: The course is fast traffic free UKA measured 5k. Marshalls will be at junctions, so please obey their instructions. Please be aware that pedestrians use the complex. Each kilometre is marked accurately. One refreshment station is provided at the end of the 5k. A course map will be available to view at the entry desk at the complex.

First Aid: British Red Cross will provide medical help on route should you need it. If you are unable to finish, try to walk to the first aid post at the finish of the race or signal you need help to the marshals out on the course.

The Finish: Having finished please keep moving in the same order. Please ensure your number is clearly visible. Refreshments will be available in the Puma tennis centre, a short walk from the finish.

Prizes: Prizes and medals for the North East Championships will be presented at the end of the race in the Puma Tennis Centre.

Sunderland Harriers Start Fitness Open Cross Country Races

Sunderland harriers open cross country races take place on the hills of Farringdon and Gilley Law, (the start is adjacent to Farringdon school). A full lap around the course is approximately 1.8 miles. There are six separate events, all are listed below along with race categories:
