About Us
Sunderland Harriers & AC were formed in 1897 (re-formed 1905) and over the past century have promoted athletics in the North East of England. During this time the club has achieved success at both regional and national level across a wide range of age groups.
Prospective members of all abilities are welcome to join Sunderland Harriers from the age of nine years-old. The club provides coaching, facilities and opportunities for all members to participate in athletics and improve their performance.
Sunderland Harriers are based at Silksworth Sports Centre, Silksworth, Sunderland. We have training sessions at the sports centre every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:45pm to 8:00pm, where the club has exclusive use of the six-lane synthetic athletics track facilities (pictured below). You are more than welcome to come along to the sports complex to see the facilities and training that the club has to offer.
Sunderland Harriers are affiliated to England Athletics, the governing body for athletics clubs in England. The club is also in the process of working towards Clubmark accreditation, which aims to raise the standards of sports clubs.
The club hosts three of its own events each year; Penshaw Hill Race, Air Products Sunderland 5K Road Race and Sunderland Open Cross Country Races. For more information see Events. We also host one of the North Eastern Harrier League Cross Country meetings. Past prestigious events hosted by Sunderland Harriers include:
